4. SMALL, BUT DASHING!

Rosco’s DMG Dash LED kit is a pro-spec, pocket-sized LED light that has a huge spectrum of colours. This is thanks to the same six-chip LED set found in all of the company’s larger Mix LED lightbanks. The Dash can be set to produce more than 130 colours that match Rosco’s colour gels, as well as white in all colour temperatures and hues – plus colour matching to most popular light sources. The DMG Dash is a well-built LED that only weighs 367g/0.8lb, despite it being in a tough, metal housing. It measures just 128x80x28mm/5x3.1x1.1in, yet puts out 380 lux at one metre. Its output is rated to 95+ CRI and 90+ TLCI for accuracy. The Dash comes with a flat diffuser panel, dome diffusion panel, plastic eggcrate grid, and gel holder for additional gel or diffusion. These all have small magnets in each corner and just stick firmly to the matching magnetic pads in the corner of the unit. You can also stack several together, for example, using the grid on top of the gel holder. But once you start to do this, be careful not to knock them off. The unit has standard 1/4in-20 holes on the rear panel, bottom and left side, to allow a variety of mounting options, such as using the included light stand mount. The light comes with a screw-in magnetic plate that has a soft rubber cover, so you could attach it to a steel panel. It’s not strong enough to risk using on a moving car, though.

The light charges via USB-C and runs for up to three hours. The Dash is operated by a rear control panel that has three buttons and LED screen with menu

options. The right side has a large, knurled aluminium wheel, which can be rotated or clicked inwards to change settings. This dial is ideal for quickly altering brightness or scrolling through colour options. The menu button brings up options for white, colour, gel, FX, source match and overall settings. In white mode, you can separately alter the intensity, colour temperature and green/magenta tint. Colour mode changes intensity, temperature, hue and saturation. Gel mode has these settings, but also lets you select standard Rosco gel colours. FX mode has options for lights that mimic emergency vehicles, paparazzi flashes, TV screens and firelight, and you can alter the speed and intensity of the pulses. Finally, source match lets you alter intensity for light that matches Xenon headlights, candle flame, frosty moonlight, HP and LP sodium lights, Tungsten, mercury and sodium vapour – plus blue and green screen. It’s all very simple to work out. The settings menu is where you configure Bluetooth,

to allow the unit to be controlled using the MyMix app. The USB-C charging port has a rubber cover to keep out the elements, and it’s rated IP54 weather resistance. The Dash has good build quality, with a colour temperature range of 700-10,000K and colour rendering of CRI average >95 and TLCI >90. You can set any colour you like and it’s flicker-free up to 1000fps. At £263/$279, it’s a great buy. dash.rosco.com

A FILAMENT OF THE IMAGINATION The DMG Dash might be pocket-sized, but can produce any colour you can dream of and match the output to Rosco’s massive gel range

DAZZLING DASH The DMG light can be used with a grid (top) to prevent spill, tuned to any colour you like (above), and it all comes in a small fitted case. With its built-in battery charged by USB-C, it’s a great tool to keep in your kit bag
