Reaching over 4.5 million from live streams alone, German digital gaming festival Gamevasion was an incredible broadcasting feat. LiveU facilitated the entirely mobile production set-up, accomplishing Rocket Beans TV’s biggest ever live event

it in 2021 to a world more remote than ever before – was something entirely different to anything it had ever attempted. “The first Gamevasion Championships took place in 2020, when we contributed to gamescom by creating a multidisciplinary games show,” Petrescu describes. “To bring the production concept to the next level, we broke free from the limitations of studio events and included locations in our format that we could not rebuild within the confines of a set. “We challenged ourselves to set up an extremely mobile production unit to work in different places, travelling from one location to the next. As a result, we created a hybrid event that was part TV show, part streamer road trip. The audience accompanied the players on a bus journey through Hamburg, stopping at different locations all over the city to play a wide selection of games.”

distributed four German influencers to different

locations across Hamburg. It was imperative to have a combination of a capable production team, an agile toolkit and the appropriate medium for the event to be distributed on. Rocket Beans Entertainment began in 2012, producing the gaming format MTV GameOne for German television. It branched out to YouTube as its own channel, and transitioned into a 24/7 broadcasting station in 2015, available on the internet and various other digital TV platforms. Rocket Beans COO Michael Petrescu emphasised how taking on the Gamevasion Championships for the second time – and delivering

component that allowed Rocket Beans to pull off this production. Several camera crews followed the participants around Hamburg, using 12 LiveU field units to deliver live video back to the central control room, where the feeds were being mixed entirely remotely. The LU600 and LU800 multi- cam units transmitted live signals from many locations – including a speeding roller-coaster wagon, a rooftop bar on the 26th floor of a hotel, and a laser game venue. The crucial element of agility was achieved; each LU800 delivered four parallel live feeds, transforming a bus into a driving studio. This accomplished an uninterrupted, three-hour live show – marking new milestones for all involved. “The biggest differences to this project were the size and complexity,” continues Petrescu. “Although we had used each individual component, we previously worked with back-up studios and considered the outdoor signals as purely an added bonus. This unique production could only be successful when all individual parts worked together.”
