FEED WINTER 2021 – Web

RE-DISKOVER YOUR DATA There is so much data to store, it’s increasingly tough to keep track – but the investment launch of the AJA Diskover Media Edition is a creative solution

s data explodes, we’re expected to create the same amount in the next three years as we

have in the previous three decades,” says president of AJA Video Systems, Nick Rashby. As of 2021, around 50% of all corporate data is stored in the cloud. By 2025, cloud data centres are projected to exceed 100 zettabytes! Many have already made the transition to the cloud, and we have seen tech vendors release creative solutions to accommodate this. But, what about a solution that organises all of your data for you, and ensures you’re not wasting a single penny? AJA has announced an investment into Diskover Data, with the release of AJA Diskover Media Edition. Encompassing a common issue with the constant expansion of data, the software is based on open-source roots. It allows media pros to easily search, find and analyse media asset data originating from every corner of their system – including on-premises, remote and cloud storage. Users can index hundreds of petabytes of information, saving companies time and money by quickly identifying wasted storage and ageing files.

Aggregating associated metadata into a unified global index, Diskover aims to act as a centralised contact, clearly showing all your storage use. The software manages usage and history, meaning one period of storage can be compared against another. This in turn reveals the big picture of your system, allowing for hyper-efficiency. “An advantage to the software is that it’s built on a proven, open-source core called Elasticsearch, which your IT department should be very familiar with,” explained Rashby. The browser-based tool is completely scalable. As your company grows, Diskover will grow with you. It aims to serve your business top-down, with easy usability: from executives to operations personnel, creators to VFX teams – no matter where they are. Director of product marketing at AJA, Bryce Button, highlights why Diskover was the perfect fit for AJA.

“The founder of Diskover, Chris Park, is not only an engineer, but comes from some of the top-end post houses around the world. He’s looking at this problem of data management and finding the solution with AJA. As a result, our tool is massively tailored to the media and entertainment industry.” AJA Diskover Media Edition is now available for an annual subscription of $11,995 per node. Other exciting news that came out alongside AJA’s Diskover Media Edition announcement was that the company’s Kona 5, Io 4K Plus and T-Tap Pro now include support for ‘Hardware Out’ in Microsoft Teams. Using the new feature, live and AV pros can easily output SDI and HDMI video and audio streams from on-the-ground reporters operating in remote locations.
