TOP TABLE Louise Hoffman takes a seat at The Teller’s Table in St Ives, which opened earlier this year I f ever there were a perfect place for a refined soiree, special celebration or ladies who lunch, it’s The Teller’s Table in the picturesque riverside market town of St Ives. linguine with lemon, tomato concasse and chilli (paired, irresistibly, with a side order of truffle and parmesan fries) – the perfect combination to transport both palate and mind to the sun-drenched coastlines of warmer climes. Stepping into the town’s former Old Bank, which now houses the restaurant, the restored space feels airy, light and inviting thanks to the high ceilings, tall windows and a calming, cohesive colour palette of chalk, pastel green and pops of burnt orange. Meanwhile, thoughtful touches like banker’s lamps tell both the past and present chapters of the building’s story. The warm welcome continues with genuine care and attention through fine- dining-standard service, and an à la carte menu placed before you that will tantalise every taste bud. Transportive flavours On the day of my visit, I was treated to Moroccan fish cigars with lime yoghurt and warming harissa, followed by Dorset crab
dessert: Mediterranean radiance captured in olive oil and almond cake with torched orange and lemon balm. Meanwhile, the salted caramel and chocolate tart provided a richer encore, its accompanying ripple of vanilla crémeux beautifully decorated with cornflower petals. Something for everyone Going beyond the à la carte, guests here are well catered for with a great range of options, including a set menu, brunches and the restaurant’s renowned Teller’s Flatbreads served throughout each day and into the evening as a lighter option, to share or as part of a longer meal.
