The first issue of FEED came out in March 2018. Its cover story was about the tech bringing audiences the Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. FEED was monthly back then, with sports built in right away. Our coverage of the 2018 Pyeongchang Games noted such innovations as:
• 4000 hours of live coverage • The largest IBC fibre network yet • 4K production for some key sports • 8K production of the opening ceremony by Japanese broadcaster NHK • VR and panoramic video But, behind the scenes, there were far more challenging – and dangerous – technical difficulties. The Pyeongchang Olympics were also hit by a massive cyberattack. While viewers around the world were enjoying the opening ceremony, technical teams battled with invading malware that threatened the entire infrastructure. Fast thinking and network expertise made sure no one at home knew it had happened until much later.
