What was your first media industry job?
I started as a runner/PA, which I didn’t much enjoy – and can thank the fact I was a terrible coffee maker for giving me the opportunity to be assigned as camera assistant. Today, I’m a DOP. Moral of the story? Don’t be good at a job you don’t want! How many different job titles have you had in the industry? My progression from runner/PA to camera assistant led to second AC, first AC, then 3D stereographer, before going back to camera operator – and now DOP. Now that I specialise in next-gen film productions, the workflow is far more holistic, and I take on hybrid roles depending on the demands of the film. What was your first media industry job?
I started out as receptionist/expeditor for Vidfilm in the UK in 1995, which was later acquired by Technicolor. How many different job titles have you had in the industry? A lot! Probably around 12? Did your education prepare you for the work? I grew up in the UK and finished school at 16 with ambitions of becoming a journalist, quickly finding a job with a publishing company. In retrospect, I was too young for that responsibility. By 21, I found myself at Vidfilm. I had no idea this industry existed!
