Max Mandelbaum to discover how he and his company UPUP are pushing the boundaries of aerial illumination G etting a serious film light airborne is not a straightforward thing to do. It’s definitely possible, but remains a pretty specialised and technically challenging corner of film production. Max Mandelbaum is one of the people doing exciting things in that corner. Based in Berlin, he founded UPUP – a company specialising in drone cinematography – in 2014 and has gone on to provide aerial services for TV, commercials, music videos and feature films including Mother Mary , The Witcher , Skylines and The Hunger Games : The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes . His interest in aerial image capture began while studying communications design with a focus on photography.
