social responsibility, bridging the gap between groundbreaking technology and compelling cinematic narratives.” Having taken a ‘non-traditional’, ‘non- academic’ route into HETV, Wadan knows how important these training schemes can be. Futures in Film CIC is part of an ecosystem with Mr Helix and Pixeleyed Pictures – an HETV production company also started by Wadan that serves ‘as a testing ground to support technical innovation on-set’. By creating production simulations that reflect HETV drama standards, it provides participants with industry insight, practical knowledge and networking opportunities with industry professionals, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity and social responsibility. A crucial partner in the initiative has been CVP. “CVP has been providing us with not just the latest equipment, but also the technical expertise and support needed to push the boundaries of what we can achieve on-set. They’ve been invaluable in both the R&D phase, supporting the real-world application of our technologies, and are working closely to develop our Futures in Film educational outreach,” Wadan enthuses. “They understand the industry’s needs.” Next steps When Wadan first entered the industry, “the equipment was bulkier, less flexible and required extensive set- ups that limited creative freedom,” he describes. As a response to the Westminster attacks, he created an anti-terrorism campaign, but the nationwide campaign has been paused (“We have Ukraine and now we have Gaza – this is going to be a bigger challenge to overcome,” he suggests). For Wadan, it’s the narrative itself which matters most. “I love beautiful cinematography, don’t get me wrong,” he concludes, “but for me it’s about the story. It’s about the impact you make not just on-set, but also in society.”
