According to startling research from union Bectu, 52% of the UK’s film and TV workforce is currently out of work – a small recovery from February 2024, which found it was 68%.

2. Pinewood Studios’ profits surge

The iconic UK studio is in rude health, reporting a 40% boost in turnover for the financial period leading up to the end of June. The increase to £49.3 million (up from £35.6 million) comes off the back of a run of recent hits and expansions at Shepperton and Pinewood Toronto Studios. 3. Disney streamers thrive Disney’s streaming business, which includes Disney+, Hulu and ESPN, has made a profit for the first time, reporting revenue of $6.4 billion according to its latest results.
