60 HAPPENING Making Waves

MAKING WAVES Scandinavia is becoming a world centre for streaming video products and research. OTT video company Norigin Media decided it was time for the region to have a conference of its own Words By Neal Romanek

rom Bergen to Talinn, the Scandinavian region is punching well above its weight in producing digital tech innovation.

Years of good education, early adoption of streaming and universal digital literacy are finally paying off. With the Nordic territories established as a centre of excellence, particularly in providing OTT technologies and services, Norigin Media CEO Ajey Anand saw the need for greater communication between companies in the region. The result was the first Northern Waves conference, held in Oslo on 31 May. In recent years, Norigin has been focusing on two ends of the OTT delivery chain – developing user experience for streaming services and hosting its own cloud OTT platform for linear and live TV. The company’s customers are primarily in Scandinavia and Latin America. “It’s an industry that is evolving so much every year, we have begun to feel the lack of available options for people to develop in conferences,” says Anand.
