Fujifilm updates XF16-55mm f/2.8

One of the key changes in this version is a reduction in weight, with the lens now about 37% lighter than its predecessor, bringing its weight down to 410g. The new glass is further evidence of Fujifilm’s efforts to appeal to more videographers, introducing a de-clickable aperture ring. Focus breathing has also been minimised. Weather resistance continues to be a key feature, with the lens offering dust, water and low-temperature resistance. It will be available from 28 November 2024 priced at £1149. fujifilm-x.com

Fujifilm has released a new version of its widely used large-aperture standard zoom lens. The XF16- 55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II offers a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 across its zoom range, from 16mm to 55mm (24mm to 84mm in full- frame equivalent). It features 16 elements in 11 groups, including four aspherical elements and extra-low dispersion glass – as well as an updated AF system, utilising a linear motor for faster and quieter focusing. Fujifilm has quoted speeds as fast as 0.02 seconds under specific conditions.

Canon’s triple whammy of hybrid lenses

It also supports Canon’s optional RF extenders and Power Zoom Adapters (PZ-E2 and PZ-E2B). Both of these can be operated remotely through EOS Utility apps or over IP, providing options for more controlled shooting. The RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM is a lighter alternative to Canon’s RF 50mm f/1.2L USM. Weighing about 40% less than the f/1.2L version, the RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM offers a practical choice for photographers and videographers seeking a fast-aperture prime. The RF 24mm f/1.4L VCM is about 20% lighter than the EF equivalent and includes a rear filter holder to expand creative options. It’s designed for durability in challenging conditions, consistent with Canon’s L-series specifications. canon.co.uk
