This comprises equipment insurance up to £5k from £5.44 a month; public liability insurance works out at £4.20 a month for £1 million cover; £7.08 a month gets you £100k of professional indemnity insurance to protect you if a client is unhappy with your work and decides to sue you; plus there’s equipment breakdown insurance including data recovery – £1.63 a month gets £5k of cover. That all comes to £18.35 – with an additional option of legal expenses insurance at £4.67 a month for commercial legal disputes and debt recovery. These figures are obviously for guidance, and as a working pro, the kit you use for your business is probably way in excess of £5k – so call PolicyBee or use their site for a custom quote. Go to the site and you’ll see two off-the-shelf options, basic and standard – if your needs are met by the quoted criteria, this quick way of buying a policy is an excellent innovation. Take the standard option and £299 a year gets you £10k of photo equipment cover, business contents cover to £2500, £3k of computer kit, £100k of professional indemnity, £2 million of public liability plus £25k of crisis containment cover. The latter isn’t a common feature but it’s essentially help with PR if a job goes very wrong. The basic policy is £199 but with no business contents or computer cover and equipment cover only up to £5k.
