admits. “Our main interest lies in encouraging people to shoot on film, but not everybody can. “That’s why DFD (Digital to Film to Digital) is a great midway process. Originally, we used to do this with DI negatives. Arrilasers are high quality, and would produce a print picture negative for distribution purposes. In the last year and a half, we’ve modified the machine so that it records to the original camera negatives. You end up with material that replicates the grain of the camera itself. That way, it matches what the footage would have looked like, had the client shot on celluloid.” As well as recording to 35mm negative, Cinelab can replicate 16mm, Super 16 and Super 8 stock – and reduce patch size. “We often deal with ‘distressed’ requests too,” Adrian notes, “regularly having clients who want footage to look worn and weathered.
