For a fully featured LED tube light with a highly accurate CRI/TLCI rating of 96/98, which plays well in a professional set-up, the Godox TL60 is a seriously cost-effective buy. With the actual light source 60cm/23.6in long, it’s not the biggest, and isn’t suitable to be hung up like a practical fluorescent tube. If you want that, Godox offers a version at twice the length, and a 30cm/11.8in model for smaller set-ups, too. This Godox is slightly chunkier, heavier and more expensive than the longer Nanlite tube we test this issue, but you get more for your money. Like an internal lithium-ion battery that provides two hours of runtime at full power. The light comes with an AC power adapter; plug into the mains and run indefinitely. Also featured are a DMX cable, two wire-rope safety fixings and a retaining clip that hooks to the tube wherever you like – and can be fitted to a stand, tripod, or any other mount with a 1/4in-20 screw. All these come in a neat, padded bag. Although, if you want a stand-alone remote control, it costs extra. Godox sells a double adapter to juice up two lights from a single mains source. The TL60 has a wide CCT range of 2700-6500K and library of 40 Rosco and Lee filter colours. In RGB mode, there are hue, saturation and intensity controls – all via a neat set of five

MAGIC WAND It’s easy to handhold the Godox light. Set to blue, it puts a cool highlight on the talent’s shoulders

small buttons, as well as plus and minus buttons. So you can set most of the important options from the light itself, navigating changes with the small LCD panel. There is also wireless control with DMX or a free smartphone app backed by 32 channels and six groups. And for fans of simplicity, a large and obvious on/off rocker switch sits right next to the AC input.

Bluetooth control is a reliable mesh system and lets you access all the CCT white, colours and filter modes, plus a bank of special effects. These include flash, lightning, candle, fire, police car and TV – among others. You can also adjust speed via the app. A colour picker uses a smartphone camera to choose a hue from any subject in front of you, and the LED will match it. The LED is easy to use, surprisingly powerful, yet accurate. Altering power settings had no visible effect on colour temperature or accuracy at all. It’s also light enough to be handheld, mounted to a small stand or even gaffer-taped to a wall if you must. While not the biggest, that can work in its favour, hiding it away in tight spaces. For the price, this is a great- value, high-spec piece of equipment. PRO MOVIEMAKER RATING: 9/10 Reasonably priced LED tube light with all the bells and whistles Pros: Affordable and lots of features Cons: You’ll want to own a few!

MOUNT JOY The included clamp makes it work well with a light stand. Controls are straightforward
