ON THE MOVE As a TV documentary shooter, Steve Morgan is always busy and travelling to shoots, so it made sense to buy a Sony FS7 kit from MPB, rather than renting

houses charge a fee per gigabyte of footage ingested, so that’s why more resolution just isn’t wanted for broadcast.” Morgan says the more basic autofocus on the FS7 isn’t an issue, as he always shoots manual focus anyway. “I don’t have a great need for AF. When I’m with the camera on the shoulder and people turn their heads away, even the best AF system will struggle. So I shoot manual focus and it just works,” he says. “I always shoot in Sony Log, which means it’s very easy to grade alongside cameras like the FX9, that other camera operators might use over the course of making a programme.” There’s no need to spend a huge amount more on brand-new kit, when cameras like the FS7 are available at such a reduced cost. And when you buy from MPB, everything is carefully graded and individually photographed, so you know precisely what you are getting. Of course, there is a warranty – something you don’t get if you buy from an auction site or social media. “I had bought equipment from MPB before and it was so easy. But this was the first big purchase,” says Morgan. “The camera came in its original box with the

paperwork, cables, protective wrappers and warning stickers – just everything. You would never have been able to tell it was used. The lenses were excellent, too. “Buying from MPB was a smooth and reliable process. It takes the worry out of buying used, especially on big-ticket items. Everything was delivered quickly, and I’d certainly buy from MPB again. In fact, when it comes time to upgrade, I’ll part-exchange my kit with MPB.” It saves valuable time, which you can always spend catching up on the latest TV shows you might have missed!
