AJA’s new T-TAP Pro makes monitoring the most modern and high-bandwidth workflows a breeze, so you’re ready to take on any creative challenge

hot new product on the market, the T-TAP Pro from AJA deserves all the attention it’s getting. It’s definitely an impressive bit of kit, thanks to its sheer capabilities. The Thunderbolt 3-connected device provides monitoring and output of up

to 4K video over 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 for Mac and PC, while audio connections come by way of 16-channel embedded SDI, 8-channel embedded HDMI and a 3.5mm stereo analogue port that accepts headphones directly or works with an external mixer. Not only does it easily accommodate the high bandwidth of the highest resolutions commonly found, but the T-TAP Pro also supports a host of modern workflow possibilities, including high frame rate, HDR, playback and monitoring, which are becoming increasingly popular. Inevitably, something that is considered ‘future-proofing’ today can soon become essential – and, evidently, AJA is looking ahead. These capabilities unlock a world of creative potential in any situation where production professionals need a pristine video

for use at home, in the studio or on set. Silent running ensures the device is also suitable for use in sound-sensitive environments. The T-TAP Pro is available now through AJA’s reseller network at a price of $795. However, the T-TAP Pro isn’t AJA’s only recent announcement: its new v16 Desktop Software update is also worth mentioning. The update not only supports the newly released device, but also brings new life to AJA’s broader line-up. “Desktop v16 includes increased hardware compatibility and breakthrough features for creative pros who are working in the latest delivery formats,” explains AJA Video Systems’ president, Nick Rashby. These compatibility updates include the latest macOS, Windows and Linux operating systems, as well as AJA PCIe cards and Thunderbolt devices on the physical front. Once again, HDR is a key area that has seen improvements. With v16, HDR over SDI is available on select AJA KONA and Io products, and the new T-TAP Pro. The included AJA Control Panel software also features an improved HDR tab, offering controls for HDR to be signalled via both SDI and HDMI simultaneously. The addition of HDR metadata capture – a feature that’s beginning to do real wonders – rounds out the key updates. In terms of other aspects that encapsulate a modern workflow,, AJA has also targeted high resolution and the challengingly high bit rates that come with it. The company’s KONA 5 has added 8K monitoring and output capabilities for Apple Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer. Updates to AJA Software Development Kit for OEM developer partners simplify professional 12-bit and HDR workflows. Meanwhile, enhancements for AJA’s KONA 5 and Corvid 44 12G include support for colour space conversion and LUTs with 12-bit material. AJA Desktop Software v16 is free to download now from AJA’s online support page. The full potential of these new products is likely yet untapped. Certainly, these launches signify exciting things to come. aja.com OEM partners can now access the SDK v16 package at aja.com/products/developer/developer-support

feed during production or post-production alike. It’s a single tool that greatly aids editing and colour grading, audio mixing, visual effects, on-set monitoring, playback and much more. Plus, it supports a multitude of commonly used applications. With a compact and portable design, it’s ideal
