When it comes to preparing for life at university or in the workplace, for example, schools are making pupils real-world-ready, going beyond sessions on life skills and introducing them to topical issues, from climate change to conflict, helping them not just understand some of these matters but also – and perhaps more importantly – learn to express their own views and how to disagree – respectfully – with others. And while nobody can predict exactly what the world will be like in the decades

to come, those soft skills seem increasingly important in helping today’s pupils succeed in their future careers. If they can understand how to establish a rapport with others, sustain a conversation and resolve conflict, pupils will already be at a substantial advantage when it comes to building relationships. By inspiring pupils in the classroom and through co-curricular activities, the goal is that by the time they leave school, these attributes will come naturally, influencing everything they do.
