MATT HODGSON, OWNER OF GRAPE BRITANNIA, GIVES US SOME HOT WINE PICKS FOR A SEASON FILLED WITH GOOD CHEER ’TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY!

HOUSE COFFEE Regular readers will know that we’re huge fans of Gnawtybites, so we were over the moon to discover that founder Sian has expanded beyond deliveries of baked goods and opened up her very own cafe, The Grey House. Located in Hemingford Grey, the venture is a partnership between Sian and Chiarina from Lorenzo’s, a St Ives coffee shop. It’s located within a large building that houses several small businesses, including a hairdresser and party supplies shop. There’s plenty to browse inside, and outside, a gorgeous lake and rolling countryside. Food-wise, Sian is doing what she does best: creating indulgent treats with a retro spin. As well as school dinner-style puddings on the counter, and Gnawtybites’ famed cookie-brownie hybrids, the other big hit is the ‘jaffle’. Made with an old-school sandwich toaster, these melty wonders contain cheese and beans, mac and cheese, or even peanut butter and jam. Looking ahead, evening dining events are in the works, plus you can hire the space and bakers for afternoon teas.

The team behind Tzatziki, the Greek eatery currently in residence at the Royal Standard, has launched Gorilla and Lamb, a new pop-up at another beloved local pub, the Cambridge Blue. This time around, the concept is all about American-style smashed burgers, served with loaded fries and other delicious sides. You can eat in at the pub, enjoying the enormous range of beer from around the world, or order via Foodstuff, Deliveroo and Uber Eats. GORILLA & LAMB LOOK OUT FOR…

DANBURY RIDGE PINOT NOIR 2018 , £34 A fabulous Pinot Noir from Essex! Ripe red-fruit aromas abound, with cherry to the fore, and hints of wood spices, cedar and delicate smokiness. A perfect match for a turkey or mushroommain event.
