That’s because it is roundly praised for recording vocals – like interviews impeccable speech reproduction and high intelligibility, thanks to quality across its entire 40Hz to 20kHz frequency range. It’s a very directional mic, due to advanced design and length, which isolates sound and rejects noise from the sides and rear. A switchable low-cut filter reduces handling and wind noise even further, as well as background hum. While the MKE 600 accepts phantom power, it can also be powered by a standard AA battery, so you should never have any nasty surprises on location. A single AA offers approximately 150 hours of use. The microphone also includes an on/off switch, to make sure the battery isn’t drained when not being used. To avoid surprises mid-shoot, when the low-battery LED lights up, there’s roughly eight hours of recording time left. And an advantage of battery power is that it’s easy to use on a boom. Sennheiser also offers the KA 600 coiled cable, which plugs into the mic’s XLR connector, but has a standard 3.5mm jack plug at the other end. That makes it ideal for a mirrorless or DSLR – or even a compact cinema camera. There’s a cable to connect it to a smart device, if you wish.
