SUPER KIT! The Atomos Ninja V+ monitor/ recorder, an Angelbird SD card, Lacie SSD and Tenba bag all claim victory ACCESSORIES

loses out in functionality to some of the latest CFexpress cards, it’s significantly cheaper and works in far more cameras. When it comes to future- proofing equipment, the Atomos Ninja V+ does just that – and is the clear winner of our monitor/ recorder class. It’s based on the popular Ninja V and has a five-inch touchscreen. This helps perfect your shots, as it has waveforms, false colour, vectorscope, focus peaking, instant zoom, anamorphic de-squeeze – and you can load up to eight LUT via the SSDmemory, and bake in the look if you want. The plus model has a more powerful chip inside. This allows for 8K/30p and 4K/120p ProRes Raw recording. That’s if you have the right camera, which at the moment means a Sony FX6 or FX9, Z-Cam E2 and E2-M4 for 4K/120p, or Canon EOS R5 for 8K/30p. But more cameras will be added. It can also record Apple ProRes Raw direct frommany mirrorless cameras. For housing kit safely, you need a bag offering protection and portability. In the category for rollers or hard cases, the Peli brand wins once again – this time, with the 1615 Air Case. It’s made from high-impact plastic resin to withstand extreme temperatures, with rounded corners to fend off impact. An O-ring seal keeps the nasties out, and the latches are tough – fitted with stainless steel hinge pins. Peli’s Air range is much lighter than same-size standard Peli cases. Inside, a range of protection is available – from Peli’s lightweight padded dividers system, to Pick N

The world of accessories in filmmaking is fast-changing - from hard drives and cases, to monitors and more. These bits of kit are vital, and really help the working life of a professional filmmaker. With so many new bits of equipment on sale, it’s testament to how advanced one product is, as it’s won the coveted external hard drive category for the second year in a row. That’s the Lacie Rugged SSD Pro 1TB with Thunderbolt 3. It uses a silent solid-state disc, which is far faster and more reliable than any conventional HDD drive. The Rugged SSD Pro comes in a black, rubberised cover, and is ideal for up to 8K video. It can manage transfer speeds to 2800MB/s when used with a Thunderbolt 3 computer. That’s incredibly fast – much faster than many rival SSDs – and lets you download files or edit with no slowing at all. The included cable also works with USB-C computers, as this is the same fit as Thunderbolt. But you do lose the impressive data transfer speed this way. Since so many cameras need ever-faster media, the winner of the memory card category is the Angelbird SDXC UHS-II V90 128GB, as it can handle shooting in 4K or high frame rates. The V90-class card means it’s compatible with the very quickest cameras. Although it “This kit is vital and helps the working life of a filmmaker”

The winner in editing software is the Adobe Premiere Pro CC non-linear editor. It’s the most popular NLE for editing, and works seamlessly with Adobe’s other products, such as After Effects or Photoshop. A new version revealed recently makes it even better.
