54 ROUND TABLE Covid-19

TSL Products Mark Davies, director of products and technology

Having TSL offices based in the United Kingdom and Los Angeles, I’ve been keeping up with Californian and UK law over the last few weeks, as our number- one priority is our staff. We are keeping in contact with TSL employees to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and safe. With that in mind, we have all employees, other than those manufacturing products, working from home, so we’ve successfully decamped. On the manufacturing side, we have only essential staff in place, allowing those who cannot work efficiently from home to practise social distancing. In light of the coronavirus pandemic, so many of our customers are now based at home, so we have altered our R&D road map for the short term, in response to specific customer requirements centred around remote control of a broadcast facility. Because many broadcast stations are operating in a work-from-home environment, our customers are requesting solutions that will help them continue to do their job, but perhaps with less budget than was available before and under particular constraints. We have added a feature to some of our USP control panels, which allows users to control major hub and spoke installations across the from home. This was something we didn’t have on our road map and have put in place in reaction to the circumstances we currently face. Customers are obviously now looking at virtual platforms and other ways to stream content outside of traditional broadcast. Esports, for example, is able to plug the

gaps for some of the major sporting events that have been postponed. I should think that – even after everything has settled – these trends will continue their current rate of implementation. It will also be interesting to look back a year on from now and see how remote working from home has become a normality. With an office in LA and a remote sales force, TSL is used to creating and implementing strategies and projects across different time zones and regions, so I am proud to see the rest of the company easing in to this well. I praise the team for remaining focused and incredibly productive at what is a very stressful and overwhelming time. We greatly appreciate the close relationships we hold with customers, systems integrators, distributors and technical partners. Through these difficult times, we aim to keep open communication and take care of one another in any way we can. I’m amazed every day how things keep moving. Conversations are still happening, and ideas are still being shared. THROUGH DIFFICULT TIMES, WE AIM TO KEEP OPEN COMMUNICATION
