BLACKMAGIC SWITCHERS AND UPDATES Blackmagic Design has revealed a series of updates across its product range, including a new production switcher, Pocket Cinema Camera update and HyperDeck software update. ATEM MINI PRO The new Atem Mini Pro, a low-cost live production switcher, is aimed especially at those looking for simple live streaming solutions. Retaining all the features of Blackmagic’s Atem Mini, but with additional features for recording, monitoring and easy streaming to a wide variety of streaming services, the Atem Mini Pro includes a hardware system engine, meaning you can stream via its Ethernet connection to YouTube Live, Facebook and Twitch. FOCUS ON IRIS GrayMeta, known for its data-driven solutions using machine learning and artificial intelligence, has announced the next step of Iris, its application designed for QC operators. Iris is now available as a browser- based solution – supporting remote access while providing the ability to securely preview, playback and QC master file formats. The need for costly transcodes or the generation of proxy files has been eliminated by this update. Iris can now provide the ability for concurrent users, located anywhere, to play back content frame- accurately with relevant time codes – allowing for more efficient and collaborative workflows. Additional enhancements to Iris allow operators to work across multiple operating systems using a variety of browsers, and to deploy in private data centres, public clouds such as AWS, Google Cloud and Azure, or a combination of either. The Atem Mini Pro also supports recording to USB flash disks in H.264 – as well as a new multiview for monitoring all connected cameras. “What’s been surprising is the type of work customers have used the Atem Mini for, and we never expected it to be used for such large events!” commented CEO, Grant Petty. “With this new Atem Mini Pro model, we are making this easier, because customers can stream via Ethernet, while at the same time record to files on a USB disk, all while monitoring all cameras, media and status on a single HDMI video monitor.” BLACKMAGIC CAMERA UPDATE 6.9 Blackmagic also announced a software update for its Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and 6K models. Once updated and connected to the new and improved Atem

Mini switcher, Pocket Cinema Camera users can control the camera parameters, lens and tally light. The Atem Mini can control up to four cameras via the HDMI video connection, boosting the cameras’ ‘pocket cinema’ status. The update is now available to download from the Blackmagic design website. HYPERDECK V7.1 Another update of note is HyperDeck v7.1, a major new software update bringing new features to HyperDeck Studio Mini broadcast recorders. Featuring a new H.264 codec that supports interlaced HD formats, the update also includes a new AAC audio codec, allowing file uploads directly to YouTube, much faster Ethernet transfers of 110 MB/s and longer duration in a single file of over three hours. around performance characteristics – for the runtime performance as well. The new version has been upgraded to also bring a better experience to developers in terms of UI customisation. “It is highly configurable, so you can get the best possible streaming experience for your users. We are here to help with our knowledge of video streaming and provide all of the tools necessary for video player apps. By employing publicly available specs for transparency, our customers get open access to everything they need to create really customisable solutions,” said Thasso Griebel, castLabs’ technical lead for player development. Version six of PRESTOplay offers event tracking to measure user interactions and monitor video quality by placing events in streams through close work with ad agencies and analytics vendors. Finally, to compete with broadcast networks in video streaming over IP, version six of the player offers a new ultra-low latency live streaming feature.
