The tiny Sigma fp L now has a mightily impressive 61-megapixel sensor

O ptics giant Sigma has a series and fixed-lens dp Quattro range of mirrorless compacts are definitely unusual, with a mix of high-resolution, APS-H and APS-C sensors using Foveon technology that hasn’t really caught on. And the Sigma fp, launched in 2019, continued that trend for the unconventional with some incredible spec and performance, mixed with quirky features that made it a hit with some image makers. However, it fell a bit wide history of making cameras just a little bit different to the norm. Its sd Quattro of the mark with the majority. At launch, it was the world’s smallest full-frame mirrorless camera and the only one to shoot CinemaDNG Raw files internally – and it still is. The new one is small, as there is no mechanical shutter inside, just an electronic one, and it uses a conventional Bayer sensor rather than a Foveon unit. It’s built for ease of switching between photos and movies, with a large button on the top-plate marked Cine and Still. Whichever mode you choose alters the menus and configuration totally, making it easy to switch. The new fp L camera has the same body and controls as before, which still feel more targeted towards moviemaking.
