Ideal for smaller, lighter rigs, DJI’s latest gimbals have what it takes to deliver super-sleek footage

I mpressed by the tech in DJI’s Ronin 4D, but wish you could use it with your own camera? You’re in luck. DJI’s RS 3 Pro, along with the Transmission kit, brings a swathe of 4D features to a 4.5kg/10lb payload gimbal; this makes it feasible for Sony FX6, Red Komodo or Canon C70 users, among others. A smaller RS 3 is also out, with a 3kg/6.6lb payload. Both models have great features, including one-button locking and unlocking. Instead of having to manually unlock each of the three axes, then line everything up again, the RS 3 gimbals do it at the push of a button. It’s still possible to do manually – and you have to when setting up the initial balancing. Mounting plates and clamps are well-designed and made to a high standard. The thumbwheel that moves the camera plate back and forth for precise balancing is a welcome detail. Once stable, activate auto-calibration from the menu – after a few seconds, the camera is perfectly balanced and calibrated. The RS 3 Pro may
