The Aputures are battery-powered and wirelessly controlled, and the MC even has a magnetic back, so they can be employed in a multitude of ways. “I’ve used them for shots that I believe would have been impossible before the dawn of LED. On one production, we lit a scene inside a transport container, with an exposed B7c overhead and two MCs inside fake bulkhead fixtures. “Film lighting is all about speed, practicality and budget. There are many methods to create almost any effect, but if you can do it in ways that check all three of those boxes, everyone will be happy. That is what LEDs are now facilitating,” he concludes.
