LED INNOVATIONS GE AR .

In a selection of Rosco DMG Lumière LEDs – including the DMG Dash – RGB and amber chips are joined by lime and 4000K white. In the company’s eyes, it’s the ideal combination for spectrum coverage. Sales manager Steve Ramos goes into further detail. “We focus on accuracy at an LED level. That includes choosing red and lime diodes with phosphor coating. It’s a driving factor for us, because of our desire to accurately match other lights with gels. We never would have released an LED emulating one of our physical filters, without knowing it was extremely accurate.”

IT’S ALL AROUND With larger XR volumes (above), a load of otherwise-impossible content is now attainable. This tech is certain to make waves in coming years

“Titan Tube has individually controllable pixels, with each consisting of five LEDs – RGB, plus mint and amber”

The Double Rainbow’s cooler 2000K diode has an inherently high SSI rating of 91, while others – like Astera, for example – have opted for a more extensive and unusual chip combination. “The Titan Tube has individually controllable pixels, each consisting of five LEDs – RGB, plus mint and amber. This way, we have been able to design a light with a CRI and TLCI of 96 or above,” enthuses Astera’s Jesper Sørensen.

are interested to see how far we can push that,” says Menno Propitius, Aputure marketing manager. “That was the focus with the 1200D, and we have lots of interest from rental houses already. It’s important to maintain DMX capabilities and colour accuracy, of course.” In terms of accuracy, Quasar Science is doing more than most. Principal engineer Tim Kang delivers insight into the recently launched Double Rainbow tube. “We have many dimming steps, as well as the ability to rescale the light. You can turn from 100% to 25%, but then set that 25% to function as the new 100%, simply to give extra steps at the bottom of the dimming range. That’s important to colour accuracy, because colour mixing is done by turning down certain areas of the LED. If you dim overall output to 1%, suddenly some areas have to drop down to a fractional percentage in order to maintain the mix. So, the smoother dimming curve is crucial.”
