BRUSHED BRASS ADDS WARMTH AND CHARACTER

TEST YOUR METAL From gold to brass and bronze, a glimmer of metal is great for catching the eye. “Brushed nickel offers a cohesive look, accommodating a monochrome aesthetic – another trend this year,” Lucy says. “Antique and brushed brass adds warmth and character, and works beautifully with the deep greens and darker colours we are seeing in 2022.” If adding a metallic finish to your kitchen, there are a few combinations and clashes to be aware of. “When using metal, try not to mix more than two or three at a time, and make sure they contrast each other,” says Gabi Riseley at Henry Rose Interiors. “Keeping your cabinets neutral and having a bolder worktop selection with veined marbles – also applying this to the splashback – is an easy way of adding some personality to your kitchen. Whether you choose a white, creamy or dark worktop, marble pairs well with metallic handles such as brushed brass or gold – and this will add some colour.” “People often choose a mix of both styles, to be sympathetic to the period of house for example, keeping the kitchen contemporary and adding ironmongery that makes it more modern or traditional,” says Allison. “Handles are popular again, but be careful what style, finish and size you choose – it’s all in the detail!” SOFT TOUCH Pairing harsher materials with muted is a must. “Natural pottery in organic shapes with dried grass is one great example of how to soften the look of a kitchen, and add a touch of creativity,” according to Allison. “We are also seeing lots of open shelving to display sculptural vases, and less desire for lots of wall cupboards.”
