ABOVE AND BEYOND

Research shows that hobbies benefit children in a number of ways, including building social skills and improving their overall health while also providing a space to nurture their creativity. School club subjects range from sports and art to music, or even extra tutoring sessions to help with academic performance. Every child is different – some might find it difficult to flourish intellectually and socially in conventional lessons, but could find success when given the opportunity to socialise outside their usual classroom setting, and take on a

hobby that they otherwise wouldn’t have thought to engage with. While some schools offer individual music lessons and STEM tutoring as extracurricular activities, others allow children to work towards formal exams, including Royal Academy of Dance and British Gymnastics awards. Educational institutions recognise the importance of giving children a range of clubs to choose from, allowing them to discover what they enjoy and possibly secure a hobby they can pursue as a lifelong interest – or perhaps even a career.
