After the successful release of Bridge Live in 2020, AJA looks for ways to enhance its powerful solution with this latest update

xciting new developments have been taking place in the AJA labs, with the release of Bridge Live v1.11. Bridge Live was originally released by AJA

in September last year, in partnership with Comprimato. With the core aim of simplifying the transportation of ultra and multichannel HD video, paired with an assortment of codec options and secure transport protocols, the contribution, streaming and delivery solution hasn’t failed to deliver thus far. It was designed specifically with the ability to support low-latency workflows in order to achieve this aim. IMPLEMENTATION OPTIONS? Examples of Bridge Live in action include backhauling remote live SDI video sources to the media production facility and returning a program feed, with high-quality reference video for remote collaboration. It also encompasses multi-input, direct-to-audience streaming via platforms such as YouTube, Facebook or Twitch, through to encoding for content distribution with ABR ladder profiles or hand-off for OTT packaging. Let’s take a hypothetical broadcast operation in need of a new, strong solution. This facility receives up

the importance of finding reliability in your hardware and solutions – something you can absolutely rely on with Bridge Live. SO, WHAT ABOUT THE UPDATE? Bridge Live v1.11 offers a host of new features, including HLS input functionality for receiving HLS streams and bringing them into SDI baseband productions. HLS input supports both AVC TS segments for H.264 and the newly emerging fragmented MP4 standard for H.265/H.264. New VBR implementation allows for lower latency presets with algorithmic intelligence, and a new E-AC3 input supports Dolby Digital workflows. “HTTP Live Streaming is one of the most widely used streaming protocols in the industry. Introducing new HLS input capabilities to Bridge Live is a highly sought-after feature, enabling users to integrate high-quality HLS contributions into SDI ecosystems,” comments AJA president, Nick Rashby. Also, pipeline upgrades include co-existence of different time bases, more efficient tools for managing presets, and Rest API enhancements allowing calls for individually starting and stopping pipelines. “Bridge Live v1.11 delivers features that build on its enterprise-level video processing power, further empowering and simplifying contribution and streaming workflows,” Rashby says.

to three remote SDI sources using the public internet, and returns one program feed to a remote location. The facility receives the three incoming encoded stream sources from the remote location, and then decodes them into SDI for editing and production, whilst simultaneously providing the remote location with an encoded program feed. The remote facility would receive and decode the returned feed for program monitoring over SDI, continuing to encode and transmit three SDI sources to the broadcast facility. In this hypothetical example, one Bridge Live device would be installed in the broadcast facility; a second one at the remote location.
