– a hybrid flash and LED unit. It’s not as powerful as a standard flash, but pumps out around four times the output of the LED and flashes at all sync speeds up to 1/8000sec. Best of all it is very affordable, costing just £349/$349 for the 150W version. A 200W light is also available. The flash works up to 10fps or 8fps in High-Speed Sync, although this cuts power by half. While it can’t replace a full-power studio flash, it can be useful for good-quality stills. The wildcard of the bunch is a COB light which fits into the palm of your hand while putting out a staggering 300W of power for short bursts, even though it is nominally rated at 200W. Zhiyun’s bicolour Molus G200 changes from Normal mode to Max Extreme at the push of a button. The stylish £369/$379 G200 is a powerful yet portable 200W COB LED weighing 2.21kg. It has a separate controller equipped with two interactive buttons and a display screen making it quick to set lighting functions and effects, plus five preset dimming levels. Colour temperature ranges from 2700 to 6500K.

RGBW mode, XY co-ordinates and gel mode. It uses its own mount for lighting modifiers instead of the more common Bowens mount. At a far lower price, sister brand Nanlite offers its latest FC series bicolour spotlights in the shape of the 500W FC-500B and 300W FC- 300B. These have lightweight heads with built-in controls and separate adapters, plus features usually only found on more advanced lights. This includes glass-protected COBs, smart fan modes, constant and maximum output modes – and quick-press jumping to popular colour temperatures in CCT mode. Both lights can be controlled via locking 3.5mm DMX ports, Bluetooth and 2.4G Wi-Fi. The lights boast a TLCI of 98 and CRI of 96 for beautiful skin tones and consistent colour reproduction. The FC-500B costs £795/$699 and the FC-300B £545/$479. Also getting a foothold in the market is Godox, thanks to great-value lights like the FV150

option that can also produce 90% of colours in the HDR Rec. 2020 space. It’s not a super-advanced RGBLAC chipset to give even more subtle colouring options, but you wouldn’t expect that from a light that costs just £348/$359 including a hyper reflector and fitted carry case. It puts out 15,610 lux at 1m/ 5600K with the included reflector. Aputure’s big rival Nanlux brings RGBLAC colours to a new level with

its Evoke 900C hard COB light source. It pumps out 12,940 lux at 3m when set to 5600K, using a 45° reflector at a rated output of 940W. The £4680/$4660

light uses RGBLAC chips, which allows

for more colour options and is especially good at rendering natural sunlight.

There’s also a wired control port, but it is compatible with DMX/ RDM, Art-Net/sACN, LumenRadio CRMX and Nanlink’s mobile app. Apart from CCT mode, the Evoke 900C has advanced HSI mode,
