LUX ETERNAL

One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to LED fixtures, so we take a look at the huge range of sizes and budgets available

O ne of the biggest growth areas in film has been in lighting – or specifically LEDs, which have made a great many HMIs, tungsten and fluorescent tubes obsolete. Where these traditional technologies had the edge in power or cost, now LEDs rule for indie production.

Sometimes, you need plenty of power and large modifiers that only COB lights can produce. Or maybe your shoot calls for small lights and tubes which can be hidden or used as practicals. So, with a vast range of sizes, types and prices, we take a look at some of the best to suit lots of needs.

LEDs have ever-increasing power outputs and colour choices, from daylight to bicolour, RGB and RGBWW – and now RGBLAC with lime, amber and cyan. Multiple LED arrays can produce moving, immersive colours. There are small LED panels and COBs, tube lights, foldable flat panels and more.
