It’s now or never to get involved with our 2024 filmmaking contest T he entries have been flooding in as we approach the deadline for the 2024 Pro Moviemaker Filmmaker of the Year Awards. To be in with a chance of winning, entries must reach us by 15 May. It’s simple. All you have to do is email adamduckworth@bright-publishing.com LAST CALL FOR or two, giving some context to the shoot, any challenges you faced and any success your film has had. Your entries can be content you’ve created for a paying client, non paid-for such as a charity or sports team, personal work or anything else you’ve contributed to. We want to see what is being created by independent filmmaking companies and individuals. That’s what makes these award so different; the spotlight is on filmmakers who create marketing films, branded content, documentaries, promotional with the subject line Filmmaker of the Year. Include a link where we can watch the video and a password if it’s protected. Alternatively, email a link to your file so we can download it from a file- sharing service. Let us know if we have permission to link to the film online on our website or social media, as well as any credits needed. In your email, tell us the category – or categories – you want to enter your film into, what your role was on the project, and who the client was or whether it’s personal work. seeing the venue for the first time on the wedding day,” he recalls. “Thankfully, the couple wrote some beautiful vows to each other, the weather was perfect and the setting gave me opportunities to get creative. I wanted to edit something sweeping and dramatic, especially using my favourite shot of the day – when the bride went for a run in her dress in front the palace – so I chose music and shots matching this energy. “I want my films to feel organic, with no obvious digital effects or modern- looking editing tricks, keeping things classic. I used double exposure and slow motion as the only effects to make the film more dynamic. With the colour grade, I try and keep things natural, as if shot on film stock, with some black & white and grain thrown in.” Shot on Sony A7S III cameras and edited in Final Cut Pro X with Filmconvert grades, it’s a joy to the eyes.
When hiring a talent lauded as one of Vogue magazine’s top three wedding filmmakers, happy couples know they are in for a visual treat. Toby Sleigh- Johnson at Handcraft Pictures is known as a stylish and artistic visionary making evocative films which keep high-end clients happy. “I aim for bold and elegant cinematic flair, striving to make each commission its own mini movie: your love story told like a piece of cinema,” he explains. “This may be a nostalgic black & white Hollywood romance or a vibrant Baz Luhrmann-esque extravaganza.” His beautifully shot and edited entry was for Kasia and Bartek, who flew him from the UK for their wedding just outside Warsaw in Poland. “I had never been to Poland and I speak no Polish, so it was quite a challenging shoot logistically, as I was also only
