When did you first realise the severity of the environmental crisis? I was lucky to have family who worked in environmental conservation, growing up with their insights. However, my more recent exposure to the energy sector and political landscape has been an eye-opener – reaching our targets takes plenty of work, and it relies on public support. How will the climate crisis affect your business and the industry? We’ve all got to do our bit to reduce our impact on the environment where we can. However, the screen sector has a huge opportunity to inspire audiences to make the transition to more suitable ways of living. What changes have you made to get to zero carbon? What changes do you plan to make? I’m fuelling my home with cleaner energy. It’s a really simple, but effective move that everyone can make, thanks to some great work within

MORE CARROT AND LESS STICK IS IMPORTANT

the energy sector. Adequate insulation will be the next step, ensuring we’re not burning more fuel than necessary to heat our flat, along with doing more active or shared transport, as travel restrictions lift. If you had the power to universally mandate one behavioural change, what would it be? At this point, more carrot and less stick is really important. Greater education and awareness about our impact, as well as solutions to mitigate it and contribute positively to the environment, is the best place to start.

pandemic. There’s another side to this, however. Business can affect the environmental crisis, too. The industry in general, and our business specifically, has the opportunity and responsibility to act as environmental leaders, educating and significantly

2030. Our customer-facing teams are working to optimise travel, and we’ve instituted an employee-led sustainability team to keep these great initiatives coming. Surprisingly, it doesn’t take massive technical steps to do this – it requires sustained small improvements with proven technologies across the full range of our activities, and it can be done. Measurement. Each of us should know how much carbon our activities are releasing. There are a range of simple, reasonably effective carbon footprint calculators on the web. These should be used, and refreshed periodically. Who is your favourite scientist (past or present)? Picking just one mind is incredibly difficult. Perhaps Stephen Hawking, Charles Darwin or Rosalind Franklin – but there are so many talented people that have significantly influenced huge aspects of our lives. If you had the power to universally mandate one behavioural change, what would it be?

influencing other businesses, as well as the public, about changes that can happen today. What changes have you made to get to zero carbon? What changes do you plan to make? We’ve incorporated many small changes over the years, from designing and introducing smaller, more efficient and powerful products, to locally sourcing

materials. We’ve also migrated to fully recyclable packaging, offered online solution commissioning and training from a globally distributed team, plus eliminated waste from our manufacturing processes. Our facilities have been transitioning to flat panel LED lighting, while the current factory has been subject to an ASHRAE Level 2 energy audit to guide a design expansion. We’re leveraging a range of proven technologies, with a factory goal of achieving net zero carbon status before
