Cambridge Edition December 2019

FOOD & DR INK

Feast in support of a great local cause this month, when Arthur Rank Hospice Charity hosts Come Dine With Us on 13 December. An event in partnership with Cambridge Distillery, it’s priced at £38 and includes a three-course meal, Cambridge Distillery gin and tonic, and a gin masterclass and tasting. There will also be a chance to win a fabulous festive hamper and some Christmas gifts to shop. The dinner takes place at The Bistro at the Arthur Rank Hospice on Cherry Hinton Road, and will help raise funds for the charity’s work supporting people in Cambridgeshire living with a life-limiting illness, as well as those who need end-of-life care. Tickets are available via Eventbrite. CHARITY COME DINE WITH US

LINTON CHRISTMAS MARKET

A visit to Linton’s chocolate-box high street is always a treat, and never more so than on 14 December, when the village holds its Christmas market. Running 10am to 3pm in the Market Square, it features stalls selling potential gifts, such as Bumble & Oak’s chocolates and Yasmin Kinsey’s illustrations. There are also carol singers, a glitter station and plenty of things to eat and drink from the likes of Steak & Honour, Wylde Sky Brewing and Hum-Closen. Round things off with a visit to the Linton Kitchen for a hot drink and cake, and you’ve got yourself a perfect winter warmer of a day out. Visit the Linton Kitchen Facebook page for more info.

Amélie, famed for its fabulous flammekueche (light-as-air crispy French flatbreads topped with all manner of deliciousness), is taking over the kitchen at Thirsty and Hungry on King Street for an extra- special weekend residency this month. Running 5 and 6 December, this pop-up will see the team from Amélie bringing their stone-baked treats to the city centre for the first time, having been delighting passing shoppers and foodies alike at The Grafton for around a year and a half. With mouth-watering topping combos like creme fraiche, sliced onions, smoked bacon, gruyere cheese (the Authentic), plus delectable desserts, it’s easy to see how Amélie was runner-up in the Observer Food Monthly Awards this year – taste for yourself this month with a flame-cooked feast to remember.
