JULIAN CLOVER AND LUCY MILAZZO, HOSTS OF CAMBRIDGE 105’S BREAKFAST SHOW, LOOK AHEAD TO THE FESTIVE SEASON

hristmas comes but once a year, it’s just that when you’re on the radio it tends to arrive halfway through November.

With schedules to promote and holidays to be taken, much of what you hear on the radio over the festive period has been prepared several weeks before. Already in the can is a special programme in which mayor of Cambridge, Councillor Gerri Bird, turns DJ for the hour, playing a selection of her favourite music and sharing some wonderful memories of her time as mayor and of her life – fun and touching in places, it will be a treat to listen to as you busily prepare Christmas lunch in the kitchen. Cambridge 105 first ran the format last year when we invited then mayor, Councillor Nigel Gawthrope to present a show. His choice of music became somewhat poignant following his tragic death less than a month later when many of his friends and colleagues revisited the playlist. Music is an essential part of any Christmas and this year we’re planning two celebrations of Christmas music. The

the baptistry at the back of the church. The microphones are strategically hidden around the late-19th-century building, making sure that none are positioned in a place that might pick up anyone whose singing could be suspect! For the past couple of years we’ve also run a video stream of the service, bringing the Mass to the widest possible audience, but also helping Julian spot when the priest is about to speak or the choir about to sing. In the run up to Christmas we look forward to the Mill Road Winter Fair, both for the touch of Victorian society that it brings to the most cosmopolitan part of Cambridge, but also because we know we can start to play you those Christmas songs. Merry Christmas! Julian and Lucy can be heard on Cambridge 105 Radio every weekday morning from 7am. Listen online at cambridge105.co.uk

first of these takes place on December 2nd, when the Rotary Club of Cambridge presents their Christmas charity concert at Great St Mary’s. Performers will include Barton C of E Primary School Choir, Harston and Newton Primary School Choir, St. Alban’s Catholic Primary School Choir, St. Mary’s Junior School Chamber Choir, The Leys School Chapel Choir and Whitehall School Choir. Cambridge 105 Radio’s Neil Whiteside will introduce the concert, which we’re recording for later broadcast. One of our highlights is Midnight Mass and on Christmas Eve we’ll be making our regular visit to The Church of Our Lady of The Assumption and The English Martyrs on Hills Road. It’s a fantastic event to be a part of, both in terms of its religious significance, and for the broadcasting. Julian can usually be found with Rob and Dom from our engineering team in

lves are ready to welcome you to the most opulent of Christmas displays, which, as usual in our area, is to be found at Scotsdales. The Great Shelford garden centre is home to the magnificently festive Elf Express, a unique grotto experience which has evolved into an enchanting winter wonderland over the years. The Scotsdales’ elves welcome little ones to be captivated as they enjoy this unique Santa’s Grotto, where they can have their picture taken with Father Christmas and choose a gift from his present room. It’s also a great place to enjoy mouthwatering Christmas food, with Christmas menus available for intimate or large party bookings at the Sunflower cafe. Scotsdales’ Horningsea and Fordham stores have their own grotto experiences, plus tea with Santa. scotsdalegardencentre.co.uk CHRISTMAS AT SCOTSDALES
