VANGUARD’S RANGE OF four Adaptor backpacks each feature an external USB-A port. If you connect a power bank internally, this can be used to charge devices safely when out and about. It’s a simple, but very effective and practical solution to a modern-day issue. Two packs offer side access to the contents – the S41 and S46 – while the R44 and our award-winning R48 have rear access. All are available in black or grey finishes. The R48 is a tall (48cm), roomy backpack, suitable for a full-frame DSLR or mirrorless camera with a long lens attached – making it ideal for the nature photographer. Set-up access through the top of the bag is possible – if you need your camera quickly for that spontaneous shot.
If you prefer, the R48 can house a couple of cameras, four to six shorter focal length lenses and a speedlight. Multiple pockets give storage options for batteries, cards, cables and filters, while a tripod straps to the front. And, if you like to travel ready to edit, there’s a sleeve that fits up to a 16in laptop. The R48 is a versatile bag, but it’s tough. And it has an eye on safety, too. Waterproof material is used on the exterior, with reflective stitching for night visibility – and a rain cover if conditions are really dire. The innovations and practicality of the Vanguard VEO Adaptor R48 make it a thoroughly deserving winner of the best photo backpack award for 2021.

If you want a high-performing carbon-fibre tripod, look no further than the company’s award-winning photo pod – the VEO 3T+ 264CB VanguardVEO 3T+ 264CB

LAST YEAR WAS momentous for Vanguard, with the introduction of its VEO 3T+ aluminium and carbon-fibre tripods. The VEO 3T+ 264CB comes with the Arca-fit VEO 2 BH-160S ball head, selling for £329.99 – both combine to make a stable, adaptable tripod. Versatility is the keyword for this pod – that’s what it has to offer image makers of all interests and skill levels. It has three easy-set leg angles, one leg detaches to become a usable 1.6m monopod, and there’s also the unique MACC feature from Vanguard. This stands for Multi- Angle Centre Column, and means you can quickly withdraw the centre column so it is clear for the tripod shoulder. The camera platform can then be adjusted and securely locked at almost any shooting angle.
This not only lets you get into the right position for a shot, but you can attach further accessories using the VEO+ MA1 Multi-Mount Adaptor that comes with the kit. So, if you need to add an extra light, monitor, microphone or even a second camera, you don’t require an extra support or stand. All this award-winning functionality comes in a tripod that folds down to 48cm, and weighs 2275g with the ball head. Overall handling of the VEO 3T+ 264CB is exemplary. Leg angles can be quickly adjusted, and the twist-grip legs are great in use, locking quickly and firmly with half a turn and not too much effort. In addition, if grit and sand find a way into the leg locks, they can be disassembled for cleaning – thus maximising the tripod’s life.
