IN STILLS PHOTOGRAPHY and video alike, lighting is a rapidly evolving sphere. Still, it’s not every day that multiple records are shattered with a single product launch. We’re not looking at niche features here, either. The creative potential of HSS flash in vibrant hues is huge. Add to that the title of world’s brightest on-camera LED, and it’s clear the Rotolight Neo 3 is a very special bit of kit indeed. Despite being so groundbreaking, there are no limitations on either front. With no less than 16.7 million colours to choose from, you can dial in your exact creative vision. There’s even a selection of 2500 digital filters, including emulation of go-to choices from leading brands. In many ways, it’s a complete kit in a single package. Across the virtually limitless range of options, accurate colour reproduction is guaranteed by a TLCI rating of 99. Flash output has been measured at 5440 lux from 3ft, which is three stops brighter than the Neo 2. Beyond sheer

LIGHT IT RIGHT The Neo 3 offers an unparalleled range of colour options, whether used as a continuous light or flash

power, high-speed sync stretches to shutter speeds up to 1/8000sec with zero recycle time. It’s a strong pairing, perfect for larger scenes, intense looks and freeze-frame moments. And Rotolight ensures best-in-class battery performance, with a USB-rechargeable NPF-750 lithium cell. Away from the headline features, the Neo 3 is still a highly capable light. As a small LED panel, the benefits of continuous lighting are there for still or moving pictures. Borrowing

from the elite, cinema-standard Titan range, this includes Rotolight’s award- winning CineSFX suite – with fire, lightning, gunshot effects and more. Still, all the capability in the world is worth little without efficient means of control. For the Neo 3, a number of industry standards are covered. When the light is on-camera or mounted close by, key features and user favourites can be accessed via a full-colour touchscreen display. Where preferred, in-depth app control is

available, thanks to integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth – due for release at the end of March. Create custom groups and projects on up to 20 lights smultaneously. And the light has a built-in Elinchrom Skyport receiver, with 3.5mm flash sync input present for other transmitter brands. With the Neo 3’s features tied together by trusted UK manufacturing and assembly, one question remains – what could you create with it?
