WHY WILL I LOVE IT? The ultimate destination to head to after a long, relaxing stroll through Grantchester Meadows, The Red Lion offers a sumptuous selection of food to feast on. Kick back and relax in the cosy interior, or head outside to its gorgeous garden for alfresco dining. WHY WILL MY DOG LOVE IT? “Our staff love when guests bring their four-legged friends,” says Daley McLoughlin, assistant manager at The Red Lion. “We have a puppy hydration station set up, built by one of our team during lockdown, which ensures that they’re well looked-after – along with doggy treats and blankets! Now that we’re in the winter months, we’ve maintained social distancing around our bar and dining room tables, so there’s no worry for guests to bring their dogs along. Some of the best spots are by the fire and along our main bar area, as the animals love to people-watch just as much as our guests love to dog-watch!” THE RED LION GRANTCHESTER

Retail furapy

You may be surprised that John Lewis allows dogs in their Cambridge shop – provided they’re on a lead. Waterstones, Modish, Oliver Bonas and Lilac Rose also welcome dogs into their stores for a bit of retail furapy! Dog-friendly pubs: Take a moment to paws for a pint at The Cambridge Brew House, The Free Press or The Petersfield in Cambridge. Further afield, you can expect a warm welcome for your canine companions at The Three Hills in Bartlow, or The Chequers in Fowlmere, which provides water bowls at your table when you book in advance and offer dog treats to well-behaved pets. Dog-friendly cafes: Tasty treats for dogs and their owners await at Barbarella, Benets and the cafe at Cambridge Cookery School on Purbeck Road. Dog-friendly hotels: The Waterman, Gonville Hotel, Hotel du Vin and The Hilton all accommodate pets.
