GET THE NOOK BE SMART WITH YOUR STORAGE, GUIDED BY THESE TOP NEW TRENDS TO COMBAT CLUTTER

f, post-Christmas, you’ve been saddled with an un-sortable mess around the house, interior designers have plenty of insider hacks to share in order to remove any eyesores. “Each small space in your new kitchen or home is precious, and items should be there for a reason,” declares Cameran, kitchen designer at Inspired Kitchens. “This also means every space should have a smart storage solution so that there’s no ‘dead space’, or parts of the kitchen you can’t easily utilise. “More customers are opting for drawers rather than cupboards, as these are easier to use and organise,” Cameran continues. “The ability to see all the items and pull them out – instead of crouching into a cupboard – is much more efficient. Bespoke, pantry-style breakfast cupboards are now extremely popular, keeping appliances such as the toaster and coffee machine off the kitchen worktop and in an allocated space.” Gabi Riseley at Henry Rose Interiors adds: “Hidden access doors are becoming more widespread, creating a secret doorway into the utility room or pantry. Bespoke pocket door units are still rising too, to hide away essentials like baking or coffee equipment. Even bedrooms have begun to incorporate hidden-away areas such as vanities.” The cocktail cabinet – or hidden bar – is one of this year’s hottest new trends. A fun way to ensure your drinks and spirits are tucked out of reach in the day, by night you can show off your colourful (and well- organised) bottles to guests. “Many clients are enjoying their kitchens, particularly with so many dedicated programmes like Masterchef ,” says Jonathan Turner, senior designer at Bryan Turner. “Cocktails and other drinks are now cemented into that social environment and we are making many superb cocktail cabinets that are discreetly hidden behind doors. We have made several ‘wine walls’, where wine can not only be stored correctly, but displayed in a large, glass-fronted cabinet.”
