DJI MIC MINI
Its range is 400m with clear line of sight, and the kit uses DJI’s anti-interference which is ideal for busy streets or crowded events. When fully juiced up, the case provides 48 hours of power and it can offer one hour of use after a quick five-minute charge. The receiver and transmitter are fully charged in approximately 100 and 90 minutes, respectively. In order to save power, the transmitters enter sleep mode when they don’t detect a signal from the receiver. And via the app, you can set an automatic power off after a period of time chosen by the user. It’s even better for owners of DJI’s Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4 or Osmo Pocket 3 cameras as the Mic Mini transmitter can connect directly without a receiver. And DJI also offers kits of single or twin transmitter units, the charging case or a single charging case so you only need to buy what you want. By connecting the DJI Fly app to the DJI Neo selfie drone, then using Bluetooth to the Mic Mini, audio can be recorded to overlay on aerial footage without propeller noise. The Mic Mini connects directly to smartphones via Bluetooth with no receiver required, but there is a 3.5mm cable to link to cameras, smartphones, computers or tablets. When connected to a smartphone, it allows for external playback without unplugging and can be charged by the smartphone itself. dji.com
If you are in the market for a tiny mic that integrates with your DJI kit, smartphone or camera, the new DJI Mic Mini weighs just 10g for the combined mic and transmitter, has a long battery life and is built for stable transmission of high-quality audio. It costs £145/£169 for a kit with two transmitters, a receiver and charging case. The svelte mic won’t weigh down collars or stretch any thin T-shirts, for a clean on- camera appearance, and can be clipped to a shirt, attached to clothing with magnets or worn on a lanyard. For audio quality, there are two levels of noise cancelling. The basic setting is intended for quieter indoor locations, reducing the fan and air conditioning hum while preserving vocal clarity; while the strong level cuts ambient noise and focuses on vocals for louder environments. The DJI Mic Mini’s windscreens lower wind noise outdoors. To avoid clipping, automatic limiting will lower the volume if the sound gets too high. But the gain can be adjusted quickly using a dial on the receiver, with five options. The omnidirectional microphones each pair to the receiver automatically, and there are mono and stereo recording options so the audio from the transmitters can be separated or combined into one track. The free DJI Mimo app offers a safety track at 6dB lower than the main track.
