AWARDS MPB FILMMAKER OF THE YEAR
EDITING FOR THE POST MASTER GENERAL!
Shooting stunning visuals and recording incredible audio don’t in themselves guarantee a successful film. They’re essential ingredients, but it’s in the editing process that a film is crafted into a truly magnificent piece of work. Sound design, graphics and grading are important, as are the crucial cuts. The edit brings together the narrative, camerawork and audio to create something more than the sum of its parts. In this category, anything is welcome as long as it highlights your amazing editing skills. This could be in the main edit, colour grading, motion graphics or more. Showcase your own film, one you helped shoot or just worked on – whatever your role, enter your finest work that will impress the world.
STUDENT THE EDUCATED VIEW
If you’re lucky enough to be a current student or recent graduate from the past two years, this open category accepts anything from commercial-style work to documentary, social media or narrative. Whether you are at filmmaking or TV school, studying photography, mixed media or any other creative course – it’s about what you produce, not what you’re a student of. The work can be produced by yourself or as the main filmmaker on a larger team, and can be part of a project done at university or school, a showreel, personal work or paid-for by a client. Enter the student category to explore what you’ve done and where you want to go!
MUSIC VIDEO GIVING SONGS A VISUAL IDENTITY
Music videos are an area in which many talented filmmakers learn their trade and style, as there are almost no rules! It’s the one genre where creativity can be maximised, open to the use of just about every technique and effect. In the past, this class has seen some incredible entries, and we expect this year to be no different. This awards any sort of music video, from local musicians to global stars, rock to rap, choral to classical. Any genre goes, as we’re not judging the music itself, but how the video contributes to the whole creative package.
VISUAL EFFECTS THE WIZARDS OF MAKING THE IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE
From the infancy of moviemaking, talented people have been behind the scenes creating believable footage with some clever in-camera or on-set tricks. Now, as visual effects move from practical effects and green screen to the full suite of VFX and virtual production using LED panels, there’s lots more computer trickery available to help a creative filmmaker produce something unbelievably stunning. This category is open to practical effects, green screen, VFX, virtual production or any other post techniques. We’d love to recognise the best and most creative effects used in your work.
