Fire it up! Considering a stove? Jamie Osbourne-Briggs of Cambridge Stove Installations explains how to get started What are the benefits of adding a stove to your home? It’s a reliable way to heat your home, which can – if fuel is sourced correctly – be cheaper than many other methods, as well as being a godsend in situations like power cuts! It often adds value to a house too, becoming a focal point for your home. What is the very first thing to consider? Location: where will it be of most benefit and where will it be appreciated most? You don’t want to end up with a stove that’s too small to do the job or one that’s too big for the room and makes it far too hot. How can customers be sure they’re choosing a reputable installer? The HETAS website is a great place to start – here you can find expert advice and search for local approved installers, as well as chimney sweeps, retailers, products and fuel. After that, check online reviews. We’re proud members of Checkatrade and My Builder, with lots of positive feedback on each site. At time of writing, our score on the former is 9.76/10! I started Cambridge Stove Installations (CSI) back in 2014, as a sole trader. I chose the name because I liked the way it abbreviated – for obvious reasons! We have our own cherry pickers to make jobs safe and efficient, and can offer initial installation, servicing and maintenance all year round, meaning customers can deal with us from start to finish as a one-stop shop, with no sub-contractors. This way, there’s a truly personal feel to our services. Can you give readers an idea of the range of stove types and styles that CSI is able to provide? We offer so many, from 3kWs up to 20kWs, and from traditional to super modern and everything in between! We also stock Tell us a bit about the story of Cambridge Stove Installations…

In Cambridge, they are likely going to increase the smoke control area, within which you can only burn wood if using appliances approved by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. But I do see why; it aims to ensure that people are using more efficient wood burners rather than open fires, to the benefit of both the home and the environment.
lots of British-made stoves, as well as a selection of Scandinavian ones.
What regular upkeep is required after installation? An annual sweep as a minimum, ensuring your house and the install are safe and that you’re compliant with home insurance. In some cases, two sweeps are required a year, but this is subject to what you’re burning and how often. We also offer a subscription-based service, making it more cost effective when it comes to keeping on top of maintenance such as replacement of fire rope, fire bricks and even stove glass. Finally, what’s the question you’re asked most frequently by customers – and can you answer it here for us? ‘Will wood burners be banned’, and the answer is NO! If anything, the government is just making rules stricter on the stoves
