Opening doors At St Mary’s School, Cambridge, girls are encouraged to find their authentic voice and make their mark on the world I n the heart of Cambridge, St Mary’s School has been opening doors for young women since 1898. As Cambridgeshire’s only all-girls school for girls aged three to 18, it creates an environment that puts academic excellence and character development hand in hand. Drawing on Cambridge’s culture of breakthrough thinking, St Mary’s approach to education develops the whole person, helping students discover what they’re capable of achieving. An environment designed for girls St Mary’s stands out as the only all-girls school in the county. The school provides a safe space where gender stereotypes can neither emerge in the early years nor persist, ensuring all opportunities are open to all students. Its first-class educational status was proven by receiving ‘excellent’ – the highest grade – in its ISI inspection. Research from the Girls’ Schools Association shows that, in environments such as St Mary’s, students are 2.7 times more likely to take Further Maths and more than twice as likely to study Physics and Computer Science for A-levels – not because the school pushes them, but because they can see themselves as mathematicians and scientists without gender stereotypes getting in the way. Academic excellence St Mary’s offers both outstanding results and a comprehensive experience. Exam results open doors, but self-belief, drive and persistence keep them open. The school’s students discover inspiration, opportunity and support to thrive in sports, the arts and STEM. They excel in maths and computational thinking competitions, with junior school students recently achieving top national scores. In 2024, 10% of sixth form students secured Oxbridge offers. A 0.5 value-added score at GCSEs means students achieve, on average, half a grade higher across all subjects – this means good results are transformed into exceptional ones.

We are absolutely thrilled with our daughters’ experience at St Mary’s. As parents, we can only highly recommend it to anyone looking for a meaningful and transformative experience for their children – Parent testimonial, May 2025
