LIGHTING REEL TALENT

Storm warning from Aputure

The 400x shares the tough build and functionality of the other Storm lights, which includes IP65 rating, extreme low-end dimming, professional connectivity and a locking Bowens mount. The new CF7 Fresnel and Barn Doors Kit is a seven-inch Bowens mount fresnel with eight-leaf barn doors. Its beam range is 15-40°. UK prices haven’t been set, but the Storm 400x lamp is $1059 and CF7 Kit is $199 in the US. aputure.com

Aputure has released a more affordable, yet still high-powered light in its Storm range of point source LEDs: the 400x. It features Aputure’s Blair light engine, which delivers tunable white light with a 2500-10,000K CCT range and +/- green adjustment. The Storm 400x puts out saturated colours across more than 70% of the Rec. 2020 colour space and is surprisingly bright, with an output said to match that of many 500W COB lights.

TIME FOR A NEEWER SOLUTION

Neewer’s HB80C full- colour mini COB LED might be small, but puts out an impressive 80W. Thanks to its innovative light-mixing cavity, the HB80C ensures smooth, balanced colour rendering across the spectrum, with 95+ CRI and 97+ TLCI for natural, lifelike hues. Its white light ranges from 2500-7500K. Weighing just 390g, the £200/$189 LED delivers

up to 10,400 lux at 1m when set to 4400K with the included reflector. The light offers full RGB control, CCT and HSI mode and has 18 built-in effects, quiet active cooling that can be adjusted, plus Bluetooth app control. Power comes from USB-C or its own 72Wh internal battery, which allows 70 minutes of shooting in regular mode

or 95 in mute mode. It’s compatible with Bowens mount, giving access to a wide range of modifiers. uk.neewer.com

ASTERA PULLS NO PUNCHES

Astera’s new battery-powered Quik Punch is the first spotlight to feature an LED PAR and the optical quality of a fresnel in the same wireless fixture. Its high-intensity spotlight beam or wide, soft wash lights large surfaces without colour shift or light spill. It offers a peak output of 8000 lux at three metres using 75W, delivering the same punch as a traditional 650W tungsten fresnel. A built-in battery provides up to 4.5 hours of runtime. The $1620 Quik Punch uses the Titan LED engine and RGBMA colour science, and provides a 13-60° zoom range. No UK price has been set. It can be controlled via Astera’s wireless ecosystem: the Astera App, built-in Lumen Radio CRMX, UHF, Bluetooth and IR remote. It supports wired 5-pin XLR I/O for DMX/RDM. astera-led.com
