HOME EDITION
has created a waterproof version of its quick-installation wood panelling, making it perfect for adding depth and drama to your bathrooms. From tiled wall murals, such as those available at The Baked Tile Company, to Cosentino’s luxury Dekton Ukiyo surfaces, new floor and wall treatments are bringing a spa aesthetic into the home. Created in collaboration with designer Claudia Afshar, the Dekton Ukiyo sustainable surfaces feature linear fluting and are inspired by Japanese contemporary design. “I have always been inspired by the materials found in nature to make the spaces I design as authentic as possible,” describes Claudia Afshar. “Ukiyo is calming yet simplistic, and the colourways and fluting are romantic but contemporary to create balance.” According to Lorna Williams, head of product design and visual creation at flooring specialist Amtico, this year will see desire for spaces that enhance wellbeing. Natural colours and organic materials are key focuses. “Alongside wood, calming shades of green and blue are becoming the new ‘usable neutrals’,” she says. “This is especially true for the bathroom, as we see the rise of the ‘spathroom’ – a room dedicated to personal wellbeing.” For those looking to make a bigger impact, a freestanding bath always commands attention. Brian Athey from bath expert Renaissance at Home, comments: “Homeowners are looking for more out of their bathrooms and, whether it’s a rolltop, mounted on a plinth or finished in on-trend metallics, a freestanding bath will instantly draw a bathroom out of the purely functional arena and into the aspirational sphere.” Stockist of traditional cast-iron tubs, The Albion Bath Co, has seen a rise in demand for coloured baths in luxuriously bold shades such as navy, emerald green and crimson, plus coloured sanitaryware. Phil Etherden, managing director at the company, also emphasises the significance of bathroom storage in the overall design. “Storage can often be overlooked as the bath or shower usually takes centre stage. A beautiful vanity unit can make your basin a focal point, and even provide much-needed storage for your cleaning materials, lotions and potions.” Colour, it seems, is also making a comeback when it comes to other fittings, such as taps and radiators. Rob Nezard, I have always been inspired by the materials found in nature
managing director of UK Radiators, adds: “Standard white radiators are gradually disappearing as more homeowners banish the bland and inject statement pieces into their schemes.” Meanwhile, luxury hardware specialist Graff, reveals that brass is back on trend when it comes to taps and showerheads. Ziggy Kulig, CEO, says: “Brassware is an easy way to introduce softer tones, organic shapes and textural detailing to the room. Investing in interesting basin or bath mixers and opting for quality waterfall showerheads, with spray technology that transforms the bathing experience, is key.” Reeds Homestore is another locally based, one-stop shop for instant updates: “You can give a bathroom a fresh feel with fluffy towels and bathmats,” says the company, “while a new mirror or chic lighting are easy ways to refine your bathroom aesthetic. Over at our Downham Market store, the wide range of accessories available could add a touch of glamour to any space.” ZEN ZONE Beautiful Walls (top) can add character and creativity to any room of the house, while UK Radiators (above) offers stylish additions, bringing warmth both figurative and literal
