SAVOUR & SIP

A monthly round-up of delicious happenings around Cambridgeshire

A Taste of Japan Teishoku set meals are ubiquitous throughout Japan. Rooted in the traditional ‘ichiju sansai’ style of Japanese home cooking, translating to ‘one soup, three dishes’, they epitomise a balanced diet. Though the specifics may vary, the fundamental composition remains consistent, with a main dish and sides alongside rice and soup. Now, you can try this classic combination at one of Cambridge’s most recent dining destinations: Kibou Japanese Kitchen & Bar. Kibou’s lunchtime Teishoku features beloved classics like prawn tempura or vegetable katsu curry, chicken teriyaki or nasu dengaku (sticky miso-glazed aubergine). Each set is accompanied by furikake rice, edamame beans with your choice of topping, tsukemono (seasonal Japanese pickles), tamagoyaki (Japanese omelette), goma wakame (seaweed salad) and a bowl of homemade miso soup. Priced at just £14.90, this lunchtime offering is available Monday to Friday, from 12 noon to 3.30pm.

MUM’S THE WORD If you’re in search of a Mother’s Day meal out, look no further than Great Chishill’s The Pheasant. This heart-of-the-community country pub is known for its quality produce and locally sourced ingredients, which are beautifully showcased in the menu curated specially for the occasion. Take your pick of sumptuous starters including caramelised figs with whipped goat’s cheese and warm sourdough, before moving on to a mouth- watering Sunday roast. Whether it’s beef sirloin, chicken supreme or pork loin and crackling (plus more), all are served with indulgent duck fat potatoes, yorkies and a red wine gravy. The best part? All mothers enjoy a free dessert! pheasantgc.com
