ADVERT I SEMENT FEATURE

AROUND THE CLOCK East Anglian Air Ambulance completes Mission 24/7 and secures funding to carry blood on every call-out

rapid-response vehicles. The charity has experienced the benefits of delivering blood pre-hospital by taking part in a national trial. However, this has now ended. To permanently offer this life- saving treatment on every mission, EAAA needs to raise at least £70,000 a year, with additional implementation costs for the first year. The good news is that the urgent appeal target has been met and EAAA will start carrying blood on board every mission from July! This is a fantastic step forward for the level of care this service can provide pre-hospital.

30 June, EAAA was flying until 1.30am, with round-the-clock care provided by rapid-response vehicle until 7am, when flying resumed. EAAA is now proudly providing 24/7 helicopter coverage for the first time – an achievement that’s been four years in the planning. WALK 24K OR 24 MILES TO SUPPORT 24/7 FLYING Part of the fundraising drive for Mission 24/7 is EAAA’s Trek 24 events, taking place this August and September. You can choose from a Norfolk coastal trek, a Suffolk coast and countryside trek, or The Chilterns Challenge – a circular, hilly trek through the Bedfordshire countryside at Hexton Manor. the east of England to operate 24/7 by helicopter. EAAA launched Mission 24/7 two years ago, and has been taking gradual steps towards delivering 24/7 care ever since – first by rapid-response vehicle, and now by helicopter. People don’t stop having accidents or medical emergencies when the teams are offline, and EAAA has been passionate about providing this service for several years. By doing so, the charity estimates it can be sent out 600 more times a year to someone in a life-threatening or life-changing situation. A big part of making this happen has been raising the funds to support this extension of the service, which – at an extra £1m a year – is no small task. However, thanks to incredible community support, the last piece of the puzzle is now in place. Until
