WOMAN’S WORLD

According to a report by NPAW, the 2023 Women’s World Cup saw record-breaking viewership. The average daily playtime during the tournament hovered at just under one hour, with three quarters of viewers watching via a TV set. The final between England and Spain saw a 202% increase in viewership compared to other games, with the BBC reporting an audience of 12 million on BBC One alone.

STADIUM SCOPE

LD Systems recently acquired a Solid State Logic (SSL) Live L550 Plus mixing console, adding it to its catalogue of sound kit. LD debuted the console at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) last winter. The SSL L550 allowed LD Systems to manage the live announcers as well as the programme content mix throughout the event. It has since used it for concerts across NRG Park’s four venues.

SERVING SPORT

DRIVER EXPERIENCE The presence of ten cameras mounted in each Formula E car will provide a glimpse of the driver’s point of view during the race, as well as new insights and enhanced viewer experience

For 12 straight days, the FISU World University Games sees thousands of university athletes compete across a range of sporting events. This year, the organisers selected TVU Networks to cover the volleyball competition – its first time using a cloud-based REMI solution to broadcast gameplay. Captured by four cameras total, TVU transmitted the tournament to the IBC, where it was produced and distributed to a global audience.

SUSTAINABLE MOTORSPORT

Launched in 2014 as a sustainable substitute for traditional racing, Formula E is a fully electric sport, consisting of 11 teams (22 drivers) from across the globe. Domo Broadcast Systems, Timeline TV and Formula E Technology successfully mounted 220 cameras – ten in each – in all 22 cars, transmitting multiple angles with seamless switching via remote operation. The organisations expect their joint solution to enhance the viewer experience – providing a glimpse into the driver’s POV – and provide new insights and ultimately benefit safety – not to mention reduce environmental impact.

Formula E has seen a growing audience since its inception, experiencing a 20% increase in viewership – reaching 381 million people in 2022 – and a 58% increase in viewing hours. The league aims to solidify its position as a globally mainstream sport for a more climate-focused generation. To feel truly immersed in the action, racing fans expect high definition at high speeds. The new solution can cut between ten cameras during a single lap. Plus, the comprehensive set-up produces plenty of content for live replays and reviews – especially useful when calling penalties.

OUT WITH THE OLD

EA Sports FC 24 marks the football video game’s departure from Fifa, with a new name, new look, yet familiar player experience. The game has new features, such as Playstyles – making players more akin to their real-world counterparts. Though EA Sports refused Fifa’s high licensing fee, the company has continued partnerships with all the major clubs, ensuring everyone can play as their favourite footballer.
