With a polished area of either 25 or 50mm in the centre, these special-use filters produce sharp images in the middle and an out-of-focus zone at the edges of the frame. The effect is controllable from subtle through to strong, depending on the dioptre’s strength, the diameter of the plain area and the focal length of the lens. So Schneider- Kreuznach offers six different variants: Plain areas of 25 and 50mm combined with dioptre strengths of either +1/2, +1 or +2. Tamron’s new 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 zoom lens for Sony E-mount full- frame mirrorless cameras has finally hit the showroom shelves. It includes Tamron’s own Vibration Compensation mechanism and the optical design has been revamped. The close focusing distance has also reduced to 0.3m/11.8ft at the wide end compared to the first-generation 0.85m/33.5ft. The optic has Tamron’s VXD linear motor focus mechanism for high-speed, high-precision autofocusing for stills or video. The Tamron Lens Utility and Lens Utility Mobile apps are also compatible, which allows functions to be customised. The new lens design improves scratch resistance and is just 156.5mm/6.16in long and weighs only 855g/1.88lb. It has a 67mm filter size, same as most Tamron lenses for mirrorless cameras. tamron.com
Sony’s ECM-M1 is the world’s first shotgun microphone to offer eight selectable audio recording modes. With four microphone capsules and unique digital processing technology, it offers pickup modes including stereo and connects to Sony cameras without cables. All pickup modes (such as superdirectional and stereo) are selected by using a locking dial on the rear. A traditional shotgun-style mode is ultra- directional, which captures targeted sound from the front and suppresses other sounds.
