LEFT The Rode Videomic NTG, Sennheiser MKE 600 and Rode Wireless Go are all winners, offering great performance

The Rode Wireless Go Kit consists of a very small transmitter and a receiver units, a lead for connecting to your camera or recorder, two USB-C cables for charging the units, two furry windshields and a case. The units are tiny, weighing in at 31g/1.1oz each, so can be clipped to a shirt collar. Both units have a broad integrated clip for mounting, which on the receiver doubles as a coldshoe mount. Operation is simple, as the units come already paired so you don’t even need to do that. The only other button is gain, which cycles through 0dB, -12dB and -24dB output settings. The small LCD display shows levels and peaks, which turn fromgreen to red as you get to peaking, as well as the battery life of the two units and link status. The Wireless Go has a range of up to 70m/230ft with line of sight and, with a whole range of accessories, it’s a growing system. For professional XLRmics, the Sennheiser MKE 600 is ideal, with high directivity that picks up audio coming fromwhere the camera is pointing and effectively cutting noise coming from the sides and rear. And it’s been crowned our Microphone XLR winner once more. There’s a switchable low-cut filter to reduce wind noise, and the mic comes with a foamwindshield and shockmount, too. If you use a camera that doesn’t supply phantom power, the MKE 600 can also be battery-powered by AA cells. Also winning again in the Audio Recorder/Adapters category is the TascamDR-701D. It’s a compact yet full-featured six-track recorder ideal for DSLR or mirrorless cams. There’s a time code generator, four mic inputs and the HDMI in/out lets you record both the footage and audio simultaneously.
